Among the dozens of methods for developing attentional stability and vividness, many people have found this approach especially helpful for calming the mind when it is agitated and fragmented. While it is explicitly intended as a means of achieving attentional balance, it also leads to greater emotional balance and inner calm. By breathing with vigilant mindfulness and at the same time allowing the breath to flow in and out without controlling it in any way, the nervous system tunes itself, restoring the inner equilibrium of the body and mind.
